Our lives are just too busy. How many times have you found yourself telling people that you just don’t have any time and you just don’t have any energy? How often have you found yourself trying to relax but you cannot? Maybe you are bored but yet anxious and craving activity at the same time. It happens to a lot of people.

We all know that we should slow down and relax. We also know that our days should not be over taxing and we should take time to meditate, exercise, eat right, and have down time. If it were only as easy as it sounds!!

When I work with my clients for stress management therapy, plenty of times, I find them buying into the American culture of workaholism or simply over scheduling and giving into expectations of others who are too busy. My clients often tell me that once they start to slow down, they are criticized by others on a regular basis. One downfall of increased relaxation and time to focus on the things that are important is that others do not understand.  They either think that you are dying of a bizarre disease or that you must have become fabulously wealthy overnight. The average American just does not know what to think of someone who has good stress management, self-care, and prioritization in their life.

Stress management therapy focuses on what is causing the stress. Much of the time, it is the busy lifestyle that most of us can relate to and we don’t realize most people live a lifestyle that promotes anxiety, stress, depression, and general discontent.

In stress management therapy, we will talk about lifestyle changes, the importance of sleep, the importance of vacation and related topics. We will also look further at anything that might be causing you to have a lower mood or simply increased stress. I always encourage all of my clients to have a physical and look at their blood work to ensure that there is not a physical condition causing or contributing to the stress.

Think about this: Most of my clients are just simply eating too much fast food, not sleeping enough, over scheduling themselves, and having things thrown at them they might very well be out of their control. Sometimes, my clients have more of a biological propensity to anxiety and or depression. If that is the case, we will do old fashioned psychotherapy to address these issues.

Nevertheless, whatever the concerns may be and reasons for them, there is a good chance that you could improve your situation significantly

People are often suspicious of self hypnosis. This is a fantastic relaxation technique and you don’t even need to stare at a swinging pocket watch! Give this one a try, especially when you are trying to go to sleep.

Guided Imagery
Here is another fantastic relaxation technique to try when you are able to take a brief break from a stressful situation or when you are trying to go to sleep.

CBT Hook
A common statement I hear is, “I don’t know where my panic attacks come from!!” There is always a cause to panic
