Privacy for Therapy and Counseling

In an era of surveillance capitalism, I believe that true psychological safety requires digital safety, and that’s why counseling privacy is a core value in my work. My practice employs a “Security-First” architecture designed to protect the confidentiality of high-profile and privacy-conscious clients.

  • Video Platform: I utilize a HIPAA-compliant video solution (Vsee Messenger) that establishes a direct, encrypted connection. Once the session ends, the data packet stream ceases to exist.
  • Business Associate Agreements (BAA): Every vendor in my tech stack (email, EHR, video) has signed a BAA, legally binding them to strict data protection standards.

Data Minimization Protocol

  • Paperless & Encrypted: All intake forms and clinical notes are stored in an encrypted Electronic Health Record (EHR) system with multi-factor authentication (MFA) enforcement.
  • The “Need-to-Know” Rule: I do not release raw clinical notes to insurance companies unless triggered by a specific audit, and even then, I advocate for the minimum necessary disclosure.
  • Secure Communication: I encourage the use of our secure app (Vsee Messenger) for all sensitive messaging rather than standard SMS or unencrypted email.
